I've got a bone to pick with you

I really think that whoever came up with the ingenious idea for WebMd should be dragged from their home and tarred and feathered. Well, that may be a little harsh, but they should be punished. I know they probably thought it was a great idea and it would be helpful to the masses but really, i don't think humanity (myself included) can handle it. That's why we have doctors. They go to school for years to learn this stuff and here we can just go online and self diagnose! Genius, really. Boredom and the Internet are bad enough as it is, lets add in the ability to diagnose our own illnesses. BRILLIANT! Really...brilliant.

Ha ha ha - the internet can be dangerous. I've self diagnosed a blood clot, a brain tumor, and breast cancer. I had none of them, but I convinced myself I did.

See?! We always go to the worse case scenario. According to WebMD, i should have died years ago! Really, it's a medical miracle that I'm still alive. A medical marvel!

You could stub your toe and WebMD will say "IMMEDIATELY go to a hospital. You could have a dangerous condition known as an embolism which will kill you in about two hours." I'm always telling Damien whenever he doesn't feel good, "Whatever you do, don't look on WebMD!" It's incited panic more than once.

I'll have you know that I correctly diagnosed my husband with an internal hordeolum (a sty on steriods) using WebMd. Not saying I'm a fan of the self diagnosis trend (and I'm sure doctors love it too), I'm just saying sometimes it works.

Your post reminded me of the whole blood clot fiasco - I wrote about it on my blog...
